The active components of NovoMix 70 Flexpen are Insulin Aspart 70% and Insulin Aspart protamine 30%.
NovoMix 70 Flexpen is prescribed for the management of diabetes and is suitable for individuals aged 10 years and older.
NovoMix 70 Flexpen is administered through subcutaneous injection in the abdominal area (tummy) or thigh. It can also be injected into the deltoid (shoulder) or gluteal (buttock) sites if necessary. Patients' blood glucose levels should be monitored regularly to determine the lowest effective dosage. NovoMix 70 Flexpen is typically taken right before meals, but it may also be used after eating if required. The standard dosage ranges from 0.5 to 1.0 U per kilogram of body weight daily.
In cases of type 2 diabetes, NovoMix 70 Flexpen may be prescribed alone or in conjunction with metformin (another diabetes medication). It can also be combined with other oral antidiabetic drugs, but it should only be used with pioglitazone after the doctor assesses the patient's risk of fluid-related side effects.
Diabetes is a condition in which the body fails to produce enough insulin to regulate blood glucose levels. NovoMix 70 Flexpen serves as a replacement insulin that closely resembles the insulin produced by the pancreas.
The active ingredient in NovoMix 70 Flexpen, Insulin Aspart, is created using "recombinant DNA technology." This process involves a yeast that has been modified with a gene (DNA) allowing it to produce insulin aspart.
Insulin aspart varies slightly from human insulin, which allows it to be absorbed more quickly, resulting in a faster onset of action. NovoMix 70 Flexpen contains insulin aspart in two forms: the soluble form, which acts within 10 minutes after injection, and the crystallized form, which is absorbed more gradually throughout the day. This replacement insulin functions similarly to naturally produced insulin, facilitating glucose entry into cells from the bloodstream. By maintaining blood glucose levels, it helps mitigate the symptoms and complications associated with diabetes.
